About the site
This fanlisting was created on July 26, 2005. Ever since I read some of Jack London's more popular (abridged) stories when I was young, I've developed a fascination for this place. I love it for many things, especially the wildlife (I mean, there's no such thing as an Antarctic wolf!). To me, someone who lives in the south, Antarctica is simply not the same.Behind the "name"
You might have wondered what the word "Helcaraxë" at the top right of the layout means. If you've read certain works of J.R.R Tolkien (namely The Silmarillion, you might recognize it as the unforgiving icy wasteland between Aman and Middle-earth which Morgoth, and later host of Fingolfin, crossed (albeit with great losses), over on their way to Middle-earth. It is also known as the Grinding Ice, and is said to be located in the northern part of Arda.Though the Arctic is hardly a wasteland, the Helcaraxë was one of the first things that jumped to my mind, and there are certain similarities between the two. Hence the usage here. ^^
